Every Peptide Explained (Human Studies Only)
16 peptides: what each one is promoted for, and what the human research actually tested. In the order of the film. Tap “See the sources” under any peptide for the studies, labels and records.
Watch the film on YouTube · 9:42We checked the human research behind 16 peptides. The question wasn’t just “is there a study?” It was “does that study support the pitch?” For each one: who took part, what was measured, and what actually changed.
The labels below say what kind of evidence each one has. They aren't a ranking: a hormone result, a report of less pain and weight loss in a controlled trial tell us different things, and none deserves to be flattened into “works” or “doesn't work”.
- 1IpamorelinTested for a different question
Its trial asked whether people recovering from bowel surgery could tolerate solid food sooner. It didn’t measure muscle, and on that meal measure it found no clear advantage over placebo.
Does ipamorelin build muscle? Full page →See the sources (2)
- Promoted for muscle growth and recovery. The FDA’s review of ipamorelin documents clinics promoting it that way.
- The trial studied people recovering from bowel surgery. Could ipamorelin help them tolerate solid food sooner? They weren’t measuring muscle growth.
- Compared with a placebo, a treatment without the active drug, it found no clear advantage on that meal measure.
- That result doesn’t tell us whether ipamorelin builds muscle. The trial simply wasn’t designed to answer that.

Beck et al. · Int J Colorectal Dis · 2014 · PubMed 25331030 - 2CJC-1295A hormone number moved
Two controlled studies in healthy adults found it raised growth hormone and IGF-1. They didn’t establish that anyone built more muscle or recovered faster.

- Designed to keep growth hormone elevated for longer. A 2026 review describes it being promoted for muscle growth, fat metabolism and recovery.
- Two placebo-controlled studies in healthy adults: growth hormone and another growth-related hormone, IGF-1, went up. That’s a measurable effect.
- Those studies didn’t establish that participants built more muscle or recovered faster from training. A hormone result and a benefit you can feel are separate steps.

Teichman et al. · J Clin Endocrinol Metab · 2006 · PubMed 16352683 - 3BPC-157Reports with no comparison group
In one small knee-pain report, 11 of 12 people who received BPC-157 alone said their pain improved. Neither of its human pain reports had a placebo or untreated comparison group.
Does BPC-157 help injury recovery? Full page →See the sources (6)
- Promoted for injury recovery. The FDA’s BPC-157 review records clinics promoting it for injuries, wounds, tendons and ligaments.
- Knee pain: in one small report, 11 of 12 people who received BPC alone said their pain improved.
- Bladder pain: a separate report on 12 women also described symptom improvements.
- Neither had a placebo or untreated comparison group. Feeling better matters, but without a comparison it’s harder to separate the treatment’s effect from natural recovery, expectations or other care.
- There are also older controlled studies described in conference abstracts. So saying it’s never been tested in people would be wrong. Saying those records settle the recovery claims would go too far, too.
- A new registry record from a sponsor in Shenzhen had no results posted as of October 2, 2026.
- Safety: the FDA has flagged concerns about compounded BPC-157, including immune reactions, impurities and limited safety information.

It’s a modified version of a growth factor. Research about ordinary IGF-1 doesn’t automatically tell us what this altered version will do.

- A long-acting, modified version of the natural growth factor IGF-1. A 2026 review describes it being promoted for building muscle.
- Similar names can hide important differences. Check which substance a study actually used before borrowing its result.
- 5TB-500A different substance or route
Some research is on the full protein, thymosin beta-4, not the small fragment the FDA discusses as TB-500. A dry-eye trial of the full protein didn’t clearly beat placebo on its two main measures.
Does TB-500 help injury recovery? Full page →See the sources (4)
- Sold, like BPC-157, for injury recovery.
- The FDA describes TB-500 as a seven-amino-acid fragment of thymosin beta-4.
- One trial tested eye drops containing the full protein for dry eye. It didn’t clearly beat placebo on its two main measures: eye discomfort and a staining test of the eye’s surface. Some secondary measures improved.
- That doesn’t test whether a fragment repairs a sports injury.
- A new registry record from a sponsor in Shenzhen had no results posted as of October 2, 2026.

- A copper peptide promoted for skin and anti-aging.
- The small study put GHK-copper skin-care products on skin after CO2 laser resurfacing.
- Objective measures (redness, wrinkles, overall skin quality): no clear advantage. Patient ratings: more favorable.
- That doesn’t establish what injecting it would do.

- A peptide your own mitochondria make, promoted for metabolism.
- The CB4211 record describes a randomized, placebo-controlled study of safety, tolerability and how the drug behaves in the body, in healthy non-obese adults and people with fatty liver disease.
- That record isn’t a result for MOTS-c itself.

Epitalon and epithalamin aren’t the same substance; the FDA treats them as different. Combining their papers makes the evidence look tidier than it is.
Does epitalon slow aging? Full page →See the sources (2)
- Promoted for aging. The FDA describes online clinics and concierge services promoting it as anti-aging.
- Epithalamin is a polypeptide complex extracted from the pineal gland. Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (four amino acids).
- Research on one doesn’t automatically transfer to the other.

- A fragment of human growth hormone, promoted for fat loss. The FDA’s AOD-9604 review records weight-loss and body-fat promotion.

- A nasal spray promoted for focus and memory. The FDA describes online Semax offerings promoted for attention and memory.
- The human finding comes from patients recovering from ischemic stroke, during rehabilitation.

- Often sold alongside Semax, promoted for anxiety and calm.
- The study: patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia. It reported anxiety relief similar to medazepam, the anti-anxiety drug it was compared with.

- We found five ClinicalTrials.gov records naming the same sponsor and a hospital in Shenzhen. They cover BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-copper, MOTS-c and Melanotan II.
- This one describes adding Melanotan II to light treatment for vitiligo, a condition that causes patches of skin to lose color. Its own description calls it an example record.
- These records are sponsor-submitted. As of October 2, 2026, none had results posted. Registration alone doesn’t mean a study has finished, or that its treatment worked.
- An estimated date for collecting the main data isn’t a promise that results will be published that day.

- A peptide from the thymus, often promoted for immune support. FDA warning letters document sellers promoting it for immune health.
- The trial (TESTS, BMJ 2025) was multicentre, double-blind and placebo-controlled, in adults with sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection.

- Research here matches a widely discussed goal: weight loss.
- In the 2023 phase 2 trial in people with obesity, retatrutide led to substantial weight loss compared with placebo. The most common side effects were digestive problems, including nausea and diarrhea.
- As of October 2, 2026, it remains an experimental drug without FDA approval. The FDA says retatrutide isn’t a component of any approved drug.
- A result from a controlled trial doesn’t verify the contents of a separate bottle sold online.

Ask three questions of any study beside a bottle: what did they test, what happened, and does it support the claim we're checking? An approval, a trial or a paper belongs to a particular substance and a particular use. None of it verifies the contents of a bottle sold online. This is an investigation of the claims, not a guide to taking them. If you're considering any of these, talk to a doctor.
